summer break diary 2016 : week #1

My daughters are currently on summer break. I am planning to do one, fun activity with them every day of their summer break. I will be documenting our various projects together and sharing them here every week and possibly more detailed projects within the week. This is our fourth summer doing this.

My girls' last day of school was on a Thursday. On Friday, day 1 of our summer break, we slept in (that's the only right way to start summer break. ;) We had a lazy day with light housework, watching a little TV, and playing music. That night, instead of frozen treats, we got doughnuts. It was national doughnut day- it had to be done.

On Saturday, day 2, we went to my sister-in-law's place to go swimming. My mother-in-law flew in from Texas earlier that week. We were able to spend time altogether- have dinner and swim 'til sunset. It was fun.

On Sunday, day 3, we went to Big Bear to picnic, sit by the lake, wade in the water, skip rocks, and share some memories about my father-in-law.

On Monday, day 4, we went to my mom's for dinner. My girls started their Spanish lessons with my mom. Lani, my oldest, has taken a special interest in learning Spanish.

On Tuesday, day 5, we went to the library to sign up for for the summer reading program. We picked up some books to read this week. (I went to see Me Before You with my friend Denise that evening. :) My girls made spaghetti for dinner. They were very proud. They've taken a liking to the show Master Chef Jr.

On Wednesday, day 6, my girls were determined to put jello in the rind of a watermelon. It was a fun project, but very messy. (Word to the wise: Never, ever allow jello to dry on your kitchen counter or anywhere else).

On Thursday, day 7, I asked my girls questions about their favorite things- book, color, candy bar, friend, movie, hair accessory, hobby, ice cream, etc. They were to write their answers down, and then guess everybody else's answers, as well. The person with the most right answers won a candy bar. Addy is very competitive. She got frazzled in the middle of the game and said this. It was funny. Anyway, Evie won. You think you know somebody 'til you play this game!

On Friday, day 8, we played that quiz game again with Jesse after he got out of work and again with my parents, sister, and brother-in-law that evening. It was a hit.

On Saturday, day 9, we went to a birthday party that afternoon. That evening they watched the movie Hook with Jesse and had pizza. I went to a beautiful wedding that evening with my parents and sisters.

It was a fun first week.

I may be posting more of what we're up to on Instagram (@jessicarrodarte). I hope we're friends there. :)
