book club :: the mountain between us

book club :: the mountain between us
Hello! I'm excited to be back. I'm feeling refreshed after our spring break (happy spring, by the way! :) I will be sharing more about what we did for spring break later this week. I have to gather all of the pictures that were taken- Jesse took some and my parents took others. I took very few. (They should fire me as family photographer).

I'm here because I want to officially invite you to my virtual book club. (!!!) As you may know, I started seriously reading again in 2015. I've made a commitment to read for 15 minutes every day (on average) again this year. I used this daily tracker to track my progress in 2015 and purchased the 2016 version for this year. I've also mentioned that I have an ongoing project to read the books before I watch the movies. I've decided to pick up The Mountain Between Us, which is expected to be made into a movie in 2017 starring Rosamund Pike and Charlie Hunnam Kate Winslet and Idris Elba.* The book is about two strangers whose plane crash requires them to depend on each other for survival. (Read the extended description on Amazon). I came across this book on this list of 12 Love Stories to Read Before They're Movies by Shannon Vestal Robson. I read great reviews of the book on Amazon, as well.

(*2/22/17 The cast has changed for the film).

I plan to begin reading this book in April and then plan to host a discussion about it weekly (every Wednesday) in April on my blog. My friend (and sister!) Jasmine and my friend Denise are already on board. I'd LOVE to have you join this virtual book club by reading The Mountain Between Us and then joining the discussion at the end of April!

  1. Thank you for starting this book club. I can't guarantee that I'll be able to participate in the discussion but just your recommendation has me excited about reading again. I love to read but since the birth of my son a couple years ago I just keep pushing reading to the bottom of my to do list and it never gets done. This book sounds interesting and like something that might keep my attention. I requested it from my library this morning. My plan is to read for 15 minutes each day like you suggested. Once I lay my son down for his afternoon nap I plan to park myself on the couch for at least 15 minutes and dig into this book. Thanks again!

    1. I completely understand! It took me a long time to get back into reading. There are so many tasks to juggle as a mom. I'm happy to hear you requested the book at the library. I think it sounds like it'll keep my attention, too. If you're able to discuss your thoughts afterwards, that will be great. If not, no worries. :) Happy reading!

  2. So since I read this post I have been reading a book I got for my birthday (10 months ago) for 20 minutes each day to see if I can stick to it. And so every night as soon as the baby goes down I read for 20 minutes. It's only been 3 nights but I've stuck to it so I really hope I can can join your book club and read this book in April. Looking forward to it!! ~Marta
