october recap

I can't believe it's almost November already. I try not to sound too cliché every month when I do my monthly recaps by saying things like "the month went by in a blur" or "we were so busy" or "time flies-" but I can't help it if it's true!

Addy's birthday was this month. She turned 6. Per her request, we celebrated with a birthday picnic exactly like we did last year. See here. We did that one weekend. On the actual day of her birthday we went out with friends and family to the $1 theater to watch Inside Out again. It was so fun!

Evie's 1/2 birthday was this month. She turned 9 1/2. For her 1/2 birthday, she requested pizza for dinner and pumpkin pie for dessert. We sang 1/2 of the birthday song to her. (If you're curious, this is when we first started celebrating 1/2 birthdays. :)

As far as paper crafting, I didn't get much done this month. Eek. I did share a Gift Guide for the New Scrapbooker. I had confused husbands in mind for this one. ;)

This month I started blogging about weight loss again. It had been a while. I blogged about Exercising when Injured and introduced a new feature to my blog: Our Weight Loss Toolbox. As I mentioned in that post, I've invited my sisters to share their perspective on various weight loss / healthy living topics. I'm looking forward to this feature.

This month I blogged about my "reading the books before I watch the movies" project.

I also read books that aren't going to be made into movies, guys. I read After You by Jojo Moyes this month and The Girl You Left Behind- also by Jojo Moyes. I really liked them both though there was one, unsettling part in The Girl You Left Behind. I'll be blogging about my thoughts on that book the next time I do a book report.

I updated my etsy shop twice this month. I added some stamp sets:

As far as my goals for October, this is how I did:

  • Write a fall manifesto.

These were my ongoing goals for the year and a couple goals from September that I continued to work on this month:
  • Read daily 
    • I did well with this. Two books in one month is pretty good for me.
  • Eat healthy desserts 3 times a week
    • This is a work in progress. I could be doing better.
  • Incorporate low-impact workouts into my daily routine
    • I did not do well with this. I'm still working on it.
    • Plant winter vegetables 
      • I'm losing steam with this one. I may drop it altogether.
      • Track
        • I did okay- progress > perfection, right?
      • Stick to my "new," evening routine   
        • I did okay with this. Again, I made some progress.
      • Complete Project "465" (inspired by Jessica O'Brien)
        • I didn't complete it, but I'm still working on it. 
      I'm trying to acknowledge my progress all around. I can't expect perfection from myself. It's not realistic.

      So, there you have it. The month of October in a nutshell. I'll be back tomorrow with "Five on Friday," and I'll be sharing my goals for November on Monday.
