summer break diary 2015: week #8
**My daughters are currently on summer break. Like last year and the year before, we are planning to do one, fun activity with them every day of their break.
(See 2015's summer break activities so far here. See 2014's summer break activities here and 2013's summer break activities here).
I will be documenting our various projects together and sharing them here on Mondays (typically) and possibly more detailed projects within the week. Read more about how this project got started here.**
#sorrynotsorry for all of the sky/cloud pictures!! The sky was just too beautiful this week. My pictures don't do them any justice, but they're all I've got. ;)
On Sunday (day 51) we celebrated my brother Joshua's 21st birthday. We did almost the opposite of what you'd expect for a 21 year old's celebration. We had a "little kid's" superhero, birthday party. His idea! My soon to be sister in law Jenna planned the party. She, Jasmine, and Jesse took most of the party pictures. We all wore superhero shirts (or capes). Jenna painted the Gotham City back drop. (Whoa!) She planned tacos for dinner (his favorite) with apple pie instead of birthday cake (again, his favorite). She had a Superman piñata for him. Ha. :) He loved it all. And my girls had a great time, as well.
On Monday (day 52) we headed to the library as we do every week. We picked up more reading material. Evie is currently reading Matilda by Roald Dahl, her favorite author. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was on hold for her, so we picked it up. Lani finished up the Divergent series. Like me, she enjoyed all of them and 3/4 of Allegiant. ;) I protested reading Four, the final book in the series (events from the other books told from the perspective of another character), but she didn't. She's currently reading that. Addy picked up several new books, as well, including her new favorite The Duckling Gets a Cookie!?
On Tuesday (day 53) my mom took my girls to the library for the final summer reading program. Then they went back to her house and spent the afternoon and evening with her.
On Wednesday (day 54) the girls worked on their pocket letters some more. (This is a fun project).
On Thursday (day 55) we watched Tangled (that's twice this summer- it's a family favorite!) I had also recently replaced the DVD, so we were excited to watch it without having it skip. It's the little things. :)
On Friday (day 56) we went to the beach with my cousin Marta's family, my parents, my sisters, brother-in-law, and brother. We had a really good time. My girls didn't want to leave. ;)
On Saturday (day 57) we had to change what we had planned for today because on our way back from the beach our truck's transmission started slipping. (Sigh). We had plans to go to my sister-in-law's. Instead we had to stay home and putter around. We got some reading done and that night we introduced our girls to Napolean Dynamite. It's been years since we've watched it. It was funny. Evie seemed to laugh the most.
These are my layouts for this week:
I really like the picture above cropped into four. I got the idea for the triangle spots from Elise's book last year. (See it here).
I'm definitely losing steam, but pushing through! Only a week and a half of summer break left!
Supplies and embellishments:
binder from Target; these 4-pocket page protectors; Classmate Alphabet and Little Reminder acrylic stamp sets and black ink from Close To My Heart; Sn@p! stickers; Martha Stewart office labels; Ali Edwards' stamp sets (retired); Seafoam core cards; arrow wooden veneers from Freckled Fawn; Pilot razor point black pen; American Crafts slick writer marker; roller date stamp from Joann's (very old); We R Memory Keepers' pocket cards (picked up at Target a few years ago)
To note: some of my supplies and embellishments are old and likely retired and/or I don't remember where I got them from, but if I missed something, ask in the comments and I will do my best with figuring out the source. I respond to most comments and questions within the comments section.
