evie's black tie 8th birthday party

This past weekend we celebrated Evie's 8th birthday with a black tie kid's birthday party. (Her birthday was last month, but Juli got sick, so we had to postpone our plans somewhat. Evie was happy to celebrate whenever as long as she would be getting presents. ;) My girls love to play dress up, so Evie asked if we would all dress up with them for her party. We had played around with a red carpet theme, but ultimately settled for a black tie dinner party.
To stay within our budget, we rummaged through my sisters and my old prom dresses for my girls to wear. Evie wore my sister Jasmine's senior prom dress. Lani wore Jasmine's sophomore homecoming dress, and Addy wore Jasmine's dress rehearsal dress for her wedding (check out Jasmine's bridal shower here and a few pictures of her wedding here). (Jasmine's taste is popular amongst my girls. They're constantly asking her to wear her jewelry and shoes). I obviously had to alter the dresses somewhat. I safety pinned them in the back and the only dress that required I pin the bottom was Evie's.
I thought it would be fun to set up a photo booth area to take pictures. I got the idea from Laura at The Band Wife here and a similar post from her at A Beautiful Mess here.
Jasmine made the backdrop using gold streamers. (We looked high and low for them. Jasmine finally found them at a dollar store!) She picked up some props, but some were pulled from my girls' toys.
We all got pretty silly in the photo booth. :)
For dinner, we made lasagna, salad, and garlic bread. (Not the best picture, but I'm sharing it, so you get the idea).
For dessert, we made a variety of "shooters." We made lemon meringue, chocolate mousse, cheesecake, vanilla, and pistachio (all from instant Jello mixes- so easy).
We had to have cake and candles for Evie, so we made a chocolate cake with a cream cheese frosting. We were all full from dinner and dessert, so we didn't eat the cake until the next day. :)
I enjoy planning parties. Though I've enjoyed them all, my favorites include Lani's Arts & Crafts birthday party here, Evie's Ice Cream birthday party here, my parents' 30th anniversary here, Jennifer's book exchange party here, and my recent gender reveal party here. I love parties so much, I've even started celebrating half birthdays (here). Ha.

See other parties I've hosted (or attended!) here.

Happy Monday!
