black tie kid's birthday party

This past weekend we celebrated my daughter's birthday with a black tie kid's birthday party. My daughters enjoy playing dress up, so we came up with a black tie dinner party.

We rummaged through my sisters and my old prom dresses for my daughters to wear. My sister Jasmine's senior prom dress, her sophomore homecoming dress, and her dress rehearsal dress for her wedding were used by my kids. (Jasmine's taste is popular amongst my daughters. They're constantly asking her to wear her jewelry and shoes). I obviously had to alter the dresses somewhat. I safety pinned them in the back.
Our daughter got new sparkly shoes to wear for the party.

I thought it would be fun to set up a photo booth area to take pictures. I got the idea from Laura at The Band Wife here and a similar post from her at A Beautiful Mess here.

For dinner, we made lasagna, salad, and garlic bread. (Not the best picture, but I'm sharing it, so you get the idea).
For dessert, we made a variety of "shooters." We made lemon meringue, chocolate mousse, cheesecake, vanilla, and pistachio (all from instant Jello mixes- so easy).
We had to have cake and candles, so we made a chocolate cake with a cream cheese frosting. We were all full from dinner and dessert, so we didn't eat the cake until the next day.
I enjoy planning parties. Though I've enjoyed them all, my favorites include an Arts & Crafts birthday party here, an Ice Cream social birthday party here, my parents' 30th anniversary here, Jennifer's book exchange party here, and my recent gender reveal party here.

See other parties I've hosted (or attended!) here.
