paper bag popcorn

Paper bag popcorn has been mentioned a few times at the Weight Watcher meetings I attend.  We knew air popping popcorn in a paper bag would be a healthy and inexpensive alternative to eating store bought microwaveable popcorn, but no one at the meeting knew how to prepare it.  

As I was reading through my latest, favorite magazines, I came across an article in the September 2012 issue of Everyday Food:

that gave the steps to making paper bag popcorn: Paper bag popcorn
Basically, you take a paper bag and 1 or 2 tablespoons of popcorn kernels: Paper bag popcorn Put them in the bag (I used the smaller paper bags):

Fold the bag over 2 or 3 times:
Paper bag popcorn Microwave the popcorn for about one minute and thirty seconds. It depends on your microwave settings. Listen to the popcorn until you hear it stop popping and then pull it out.

Enjoy as is or add some toppings if you'd like.

Everyday Food had a few interesting topping combinations: Mexican chocolate, cheesy garlic, and spicy citrus.  If I try any of them, I will let you know.

I have been snacking on popcorn regularly; it is nice to find healthy everyday snacks.
