paper bag scrapbook album tutorial

When I came across my first paper bag album a few years ago, I really wanted to make one, and I couldn't find a tutorial, so I hope this is helpful. You may need to blow up the picture to see the itty bitty words. I thought it would be easier to have a a picture with the directions.

The rest is easy, but time consuming: designing your layouts and embellishing.

This is the cover. (I like to layer my paper bags with several sheets of patterned paper. I also add a strip of paper on the edge of the album to make it look like a book that's bound together).
There are 5 layouts in this book. I add pockets, journaling tags, and photo mats to my books. The purpose of my paper bag albums is that they be used as scrapbooks.
Here are several pictures of this paper bag album to give you ideas of how to embellish and design your layouts:

I hope it is helpful.

See more of my paper bag albums here. I also have another paper bag album tutorial here.

  14. Love it, this was a great tute! I make them too, but I've never used that technique to bind them. I've been doing the punch a hole and tie with ribbons or big brads. I like the clean look of this one, and I'll be trying it out very soon. Thanks!

  25. Hi, I know this is an old post. Do you know what the paper design is called?

  26. Pretty Shabby UK,
It was called Silhouette by Close to My Heart. Hope that helps!

  27. Hi Jessica, I know this is an old post, so hopefully you will see this. I am new to scrapbooking etc, just wondering why you would use paper bags instead of normal paper? Thanks

    1. Hi Kelly,
Paper bags are a fun, unique, versatile base for albums. There are many base options for albums- chipboard, cardstock, acrylic, normal paper- to name a few. Paper bags are one, inexpensive way. I especially like the inexpensive part. :)
      Hope that helps!

  28. Hi Jessica, I too just came across this post, and love the album and the tutorial. I am hoping to do one with some of my summer stash, but have a question for you. What do you do with the open ends of the bags? Do you seal them? Thanks!

    1. Hi Celesa, Sorry for just getting back to you. Sometimes I seal the open ends, and sometimes I use them as pockets for extra tags, pictures, or journaling. This is an example of one I completed and used the pockets (you can scroll to the left and the right to see the rest of the album).
